Stanford were taught a sharp lesson in 1st up tackling and ill discipline.
From the start Stanford up themselves under pressure when a kick ahead was caught by the Raven's fullback and run back scything open the Stanford defence who were unable to lay a hand upon him, just as he was about to score the referee blew his whistle brought the player back and issued a yellow card for an attempted trip by a would be Stanford tackler. This was one of FOUR yellow cards that Stanford players were to receive in what could only be described as a good tempered match between these old rivals.
Stanford did not head this attacking style of the Ravens backs and continuously gave the ball away far to easily and soon found themselves trailing heavily at half time with the ravens full back having a hand in most of the Raven's handful of tries.
Although the score line suggested Stanford were on a mauling it was Stanford who had the lions share of the play, but could not convert pressure into points after their disastrous start. It was in fact only in the final quarter of the game that Stanford got onto the scoreboard when Dave Kelway kicked a penalty from in front of the posts and prop Darren Watkins crossed the line twice both from close range, with Kelway adding both the conversions
