Stanford fell asleep at the start of this league game and although they chased the game they just could not get their noses in front. In the first 10 minutes two Ongar tries, one of which was converted gave Ongar a 12 point lead.
Stanford rallied to the cause and some solid forward work gave good ball for their backs to work with. Strong running from Liam Morley saw him tackled just before the Ongar line but stand-in fly-half Barry Stephens was on hand to receive a little pop up and scamper over the line to score although saw the conversion slip wide. Stephens soon made up for the conversion with 2 well struck penalties giving Ongar a 12-11 lead at the interval.
Stanford once again fell asleep when Ongar's first real attack mid-way through the second half saw several players missing tackles until full-back Ben King's last ditch tackle failed to stop Ongar from scoring.
Liam Morley once again showed some strong running as he "squealed" his way to the Ongar line carrying three would-be tacklers over the try-line with him to score. Stephen's no pressure conversion for Stanford to take the lead in the dying minutes slipped wide.
Trailing by one point Stanford tried to force the game, but it was Ongar who were to have the final say after they collected a loose ball and drove over the line to score out wide as the final whistle blew. |
