Stanford started this league game in determined manner with their forwards taking the game to Brightlingsea in both the scrums and the lineout. When Stanford were awarded a lineout 5 metres from the Brightlingsea line a clean catch by Sam Herbert saw Stanford pack drive their way over the line, Hooker Al Green came up with the spoils and a smile on his face after scoring the try, Grant Ferguson added the conversion.

Stanford extended their lead when Ferguson orchestrated a penalty move that saw Liam Morley's powerful running barge his way over the try line to score, again Ferguson added the conversion.

14 points up mid-way through the first half, Stanford switched off and allowed Brightlingsea back into the game, when missed tackles allowed Brightlingsea to score. Brightlingsea soon levelled the game with another converted try and took the lead with a penalty.

Stanford defended well especially in the second half playing against the wind and showed passionate defence right the way throughout the team. After weathering the storm Ferguson tied the scores when Stanford were awarded a penalty.

Stanford started to take the ascendancy in the final minutes when Liam Morley was knocked out following a clash of heads. With only minutes to play, the scores drawn and Morley laying prone on the half-way line it was decided to call a sporting end to a hard fought encounter and head for the warmer climate of the bar to watch the England / Scotland game and allow the paramedics to look after injured parties.
