Stanford 2nd XV 144 Kings X Steelers 2nd XV 0

In this match Stanford IIs were ruthless and totally dominated every aspect of the game. The score line of 144 – 0 is a record score for Stanford RFC. There were 22 tries and 17 conversions! For the record the scorers were; Aaron Smith 5, Paul Newberry 4, Ash Smith 3, Grant Ferguson 2, Jack Davidson 2, Dean Barter 2, Greg Bagshaw 1, Russell Jackson 1, Matt Rumble 1, and Mark Lennon 1. Ferguson had a personal tally of 44 points which takes him to over 200 points for the season.

The Stanford pack was awesome and time and time again drove the Steelers backwards and provided their talented back division with plentiful supply of ball. Young Steve Barter, Aaron Smith and Les Martin were huge in the lineout and the front row of Tony Cumbers, Dave Payne and Micky Cook rampaged all over the park. Replacements, Connor O'Neill and Martin Johnson made positive contributions when they joined the fray in the second half. The Steelers just didn't have an answer to the physicality and pace of the Stanford II XV.

Skipper Russell Jackson was elated with his team's performance; especially how they kept focussed and maintained their composure for a full 80 minutes. Next week is a well earned week off from league rugby but Stanford 2nds will be looking for a game on the fixtures exchange.
