Under 7
After the under 7's high performance at the Essex festival (probably their best of the season), we had the low at Heathfield (probably their least convincing to date). This could have had something to do with the late night on the Saturday.
Pulborough B 0 Stanford 20
Stanford started off well enough with a convincing 20-0 win over Pulborough B with 3 tries from Jack Knight and 1 from Greg Bridges.
Eastbourne 30 Stanford 15
The second game saw Stanford lose 30-15 to Eastbourne with 2 tries from Jack Knight and 1 from Zack Burdett. The size of the pitch and some late nights on Saturday saw Stanford struggle to keep going for the whole match. This seemed to be the main difference between the 2 sides.
Brighton A 25 Stanford 0
The third game saw a 25-0 defeat to Brighton A, surely the best side Stanford have faced all season. It certainly left the coach with a lot to think about as the defensive organisation Brighton managed was awesome. This was the first time this season that Stanford had failed to trouble the scorers.
Hove 30 Stanford 5
Stanford still had a chance of finishing in the top 2 and making the plate final if they could beat Hove in the final pool match. However that never looked likely as Stanford lost 30-5 with the only highlight being an excellent solo try from Mitchell Aldridge. |

Pulborough 0 Stanford 10
In the first of their pool matches Stanford played Pulborough who were West Sussex Festival winners. With the team being fired up from the start, they kept their opposition pinned in their own half for most of the match. The scoreline doesn't really show how dominant the Stanford side were, the result 10-0 to Stanford.
Try scorers:- Albert Aldham, Sam Moran.
Uckfield 0 Stanford 10
Match 2 in the pool was also a tough game, but again the Stanford squad put in an excellent performance and never let Uckfield get into the game. the scoreline was again the tell tale sign of how tough the game was. 10-0 to Stanford.
Try Scorers:- Daniel McAllister, Nico Pike.
Heathfield B 5 Stanford 30
Match 3 saw Stanford take on the hosts Heathfield B squad. In this match Stanford were dominant in all areas and the speed on the Stanford wings as well as the power in the centre of the park saw Stanford run in 6 tries before a reply of one try from Heathfield. the final score being 30-5 to Stanford.
Try Scorers:- Daniel McAllister 2, Albert Aldham 2, Sam Moran, Kallum Lennox.
Tournament Final
Heathfield A 10 Stanford 5
Having won the pool Stanford met Heathfield A in the final. In the first half Stanford were dominant in a very tough game and were 5-0 up at the turn around. Heathfield were fired up at the restart and quickly equalized. With a few injuries, Stanford held it to a draw until the final seconds of the game. The final score being 10-5 to Heathfield A.

Pulborough 5 Stanford 5
Stanford started well, with a 5-5 draw with Pulborough A, and were unlucky not to win as they dominated most of the game. Winger Elliott Shuttleworth was away on the last play of the game, only to be pulled back by the referee. Stanford's try scorer was Michael Woods.
 Hove 10 Stanford 0
In their second match, they came up against the eventual tournament winners Hove, whose defence kept Stanford out. Stanford conceded two tries for a final result of 0-10 to the Sussex side.
Hellingly & Rye 0 Stanford 15
Stanford's final pool match was against Hellingly & Rye, and Stanford were now into their stride. Stanford dominated in all areas of the match and after tries by Alfie Edmeades, Elliott Shuttleworth and Brad Oakley ran out 15-0 winners.
This meant Stanford qualified second in their group and were through to the Plate Final against Hastings.
Plate Final
Hastings 15 Stanford 0
Stanford had no answer to the ferocity of the Hastings side combined with the speed of their backs and the match finished at 15-0 to Hastings.
Stanford Coach Tony Gochmanski was pleased with his players' efforts and with an improving squad is confident for the future. |

Stanford travelled down to East Sussex for the Hurricanes Cup with a player short, and so with no expectation of winning were ready to make a fist of it and do their best.
Eastbourne 0 Stanford 25 Stanford came out the blocks firing on all cylinders, they played the passing game against the wind in the first half and scored a couple of well worked tries, in the second half they cleverly changed tactics and used the wind to kick to the corners or pressure the full back, this resulted in three more tries to finish off a good performance.
Tries : James Kitchen 2, Sean Houlihan 2, Connor Gilham.
Hastings 5 Stanford 20 Still on a high from the first game, Stanford tore into there opponents dominating Scrum and line-out to give the back plenty of good ball which again produced tries, In the second half Hastings then came back into the game with a try and it looked for a short while that they could score again but excellent defence work took the sting out of the attack and Stanford's accurate kicking returned with superb follow up and support by all the players more tries came.
Tries : Dominic McDonald, Connor Gilham, Luke Quinton, Sean Houlihan.
Brighton 15 Stanford 0
Even with the addition of an U12 Stanford could not contain a very good Brighton side, it was a fairly even battle up front with Stanford dominating line-out but when Brighton's backs received the ball they had some very quick players who exploited some untidy defensive positioning. Stanford's backs did well offensively but could not quite finish off the moves. The best team won on the day.
Heathfield 10 Stanford 0
Again Stanford had to borrow an U/12 to even up the sides for this game with the hosts, to decide second place. On the day's form Stanford were confident that they could get a good result but it was not to be, they just did not turn up, out muscled up front and lacklustre tackling from the backs allowed Heathfield to score twice. Any attack the visitors put together was stopped by a ferocious home defence and by the time the Essex lads started to get it together it was too late.
A disappointing end to an excellent day , but overall the lads played well. |
