Stanford's improved performance over the last few weeks continued as they won 3 of their 4 matches this sunday.

THURROCK 25 STANFORD LIONS 35

In the first match the Stanford Lions (made up of the more experienced players) took on the more experienced Thurrock players. This game was fast and exciting with good play from both sides. Stanford's recent good play in attack was repeated with good defence thrown in. Running and passing was outstanding from Stanford with great support play. Stanford try scorers were Vinny Gordon 4, Callum Newton, Ben Kelly and Jack Knight.

THURROCK 20 STANFORD TIGERS 35

This match saw Stanford's development squad beat their Thurrock opponents by a bigger margin that the Lions. Thanks go to Zack and Matthew who played a half each having just played for the Lions. Tries came from Zack Burdett 3, Max Clarke 3 and a first club try for George Oughton.

STANFORD LIONS 60 ROCHFORD 15

In a one-sided match, the Lions continued to show what they are capable of with fast flowing attack play and determined defence. Try scorers were Callum Newton 4, Vinny Gordon 2, Jack Knight 2, Ben Kelly 2, Zack Burdett and Marcus Edgeway. Highlight for the coach was Marcus's side-step for his try.

THURROCK 30 STANFORD TIGERS 20

In the last game of the day, the Tigers took on a team from Thurrock with mixed experience and performed very well losing out by 2 tries. Try scorers were Max Clarke 2 plus 2 tries from an unknown Thurrock player who helped make up the numbers.

It should be noted that once again the Lions took to the field without an on-field coach and organised their own attacking and defence lines. Thanks to Marcus (game 1) and Jack (game 3) for taking the leading roles in this, but it should be noted that the wins were very much team wins with most tries being team tries rather than individual efforts. It was very difficult for the parents to pick their player of the day with so much good play and effort all round , but it eventually went to Johnny Parker who came so close to scoring on a number of occasions. Well done Johnny.

THURROCK 5 STANFORD LIONS 20

The Stanford Lions proved to all concerned how much they have progressed this season in a fantastic open game of rugby. The boys put pressure on the big Thurrock pack which enabled the backs to put some creative moves together before crashing over the home sides try line. The Lions controlled the game from start to finish and deserved the win.

Captain: Brannon-Lee Gower

Try Scorers:- Sam Moran 2, Aiden Cronin, Charlie Downes.

STANFORD SHARKS 50 ROCHFORD 0

The Sharks continued their winning ways with an impressive win over a good Rochford side. The Sharks pack won every scrum and showed the crowd that watched what a force they are this season. The Sharks centres, combined with great support and quick ball tore the Rochford defense apart where there was just no answer.

Try Scorers:- Albert Aldham, Nico Pike, James Heyes, Daniel McAllister, Sam Moran 4, Christian Wood, Callum Jones.

THURROCK 7 STANFORD 0

In a tremendously exciting match that could have gone either way, Stanford were close to scoring on several occasions, before the home side scored near to the end of the match.

Forwards Klay Smith, Paul Carter and Rhys Lane played well in the rucks and mauls, while hooker Brad Oakley and second row Louis Webb were highly competitive in the line-outs and in the loose.

ROCHFORD 7 STANFORD 7

Stanford played well throughout this match and were unlucky to go behind. In the second half Stanford fought back to equalise with a superb try by Alfie Edmeades converted by Dan O'Flaherty.

Player of the Day was Harry McGregor for his tackling and running.

THURROCK 0 STANFORD 24

Stanford never looked in danger of losing this game against their local rivals. They contained their capable opponents and with some good forward play released the backs who made excellent use of the good sized pitch. The interplay between forwards and backs is steadily improving which is reflected in the amount of tries and scoring opportunities being generated.

Tries by: Sean Houlihan 3, Ryan Cronin Con: Dominic McDonald 2.

ROCHFORD 7 STANFORD 21

Rochford have shown significant improvement over the past two seasons and they proved this running in a well worked try early on, Stanford then struggled against a strong wind and a confident opposition. They did not seem to be able to put anything together going forward but managed to sort the defence out.

Half time allowed Stanford to regroup and they looked like a different team, the forwards were strong in ruck and set play and the backs looked dangerous every time they got the ball, this soon resulted in tries. The second half was a completely different game with Stanford playing to the standard they have maintained for most of the season.

Tries by: Sean Houlihan 2, Musa Yusuff.

Conversions: Dominic McDonald 3.
