Gumshields |
|
Gumshields are compulsory from U7 upwards. Players may opt for either 'dentist' fitted or the less expensive standard guards that can be moulded to 'fit' at home.
|
|
Boot Studs
Players' boots should have Aluminium studs complying to BS6366 - studs should be checked regularly for jagged edges as these pose a serious danger to other players. Please note that rugby studs may be worn for football but not vice versa.
Moulded plastic studs and rubber blades may be worn but must be checked on a regular basis - however, boots with 'blade' type soles which have a metal tip on the rubber/plastic are not legal. |
Severe Weather Clothing
All players should come equipped to cope with the weather conditions that can occur in the winter months - this includes hats and wet weather gear where appropriate. It is better for the children to wear plenty of layers that can be removed accordingly. |
Refreshments
Refreshments can be bought at the club, but please ensure that your child has access to drinks during training and between matches. |
Responsibilities of Parents, Coaches and Managers
Coaches and managers cannot take legal responsibility for those players whose parents leave them during training sessions, games and tournaments. It should be remembered that the training session is not a creche!
If parents/carers have to leave the ground for any reason during a training session, match or tournament, they should appoint a fellow parent to be responsible for their child. |
Medical or Other Conditions
Parents/carers must notify coaches of any condition, eg asthma, diabetes, attention deficit disorder, epilepsy, that could affect a player during a session. Appropriate medication should be with the players' parent/carer at all times. |

A brief history of Mini Rugby at Stanford RFC
A small group of players and parents led by David Payne, founded the Mini and Youth section of the club in 1999. It was not the first time however, that Stanford had fielded youth teams because in the 1980's there had been several matches played at colts level. Some of those colts are still playing today. After a long summer of recruiting local boys and girls the section had its first proper season fielding teams at U12, U10 and U8 age groups.
We attracted sponsorship from local companies and bought a set of shirts. The teams played in Festivals at Upminster RFC, Dartfordians RFC and Wanstead RFC. The season went far better than anyone could have expected with the U12 side winning most of their games and the U10 and U8s gaining experience that would be invaluable in the next season.
The 2000 / 2001 pre-season started with a fund raising, coaching courses, fund raising, attending school fetes, fund raising, attending carnivals and more fund raising!! We now have a team of coaches and a very supportive group of parents. With a full fixtures list for U9, U12, U13 and U14 it was going to be a busy year. A number of our players went for Essex trials at U14 level and were rewarded with "caps" – Grant Ferguson, James O'Sullivan, Dean Barter and Louis Orr.
In the 2003/2004 season, the U6 squad won the Eton Manor Festival, the U8's reached the plate final at Upminster, the semi-final at Eton Manor and the final at the Essex Festival, with the U12's also reaching the semi-final at Eton Manor.
In 2004/05, we were even more successful, with 4 plate competition wins, 3 Festival semi-finals and 2 finals. Daniel O'Sullivan and Jack Payne were selected for Essex.
In 2005/06, up to the end of February, the under 7, 8, 9 & 10 teams had all won nearly all of their games, and the under 8 side won the Chingford Festival.
The 2006/07 season saw the under 9's win the Upminster and Thurrock Festivals, the under 11's win the Chingford Festival plus Stanford Minis won 5 Plate trophies and were runners-up 4 times. |
