Chingford - Home - 1st February 2009
UNDER 7 STANFORD 25 CHINGFORD 35 To keep all the boys involved on a bitterly cold morning Joe Oughton kindly agreed to play for Chingford and the first game ended in a 35-25 defeat with Harry Jones 2, Finlay Maher, Jack Lanney and Tom Oughton scoring for Stanford. STANFORD 40 CHINGFORD 30 With Joe back playing for Stanford in the second game Stanford ran out 40-30 winners with Ewan Wood 3, Alfie Desmond 2, Tom Oughton 2 and Harry Jones scoring the Stanford tries. Jake Dean also tagged very well and was unlucky to have a try disallowed which would have been his first for the club. |
UNDER 8 This week saw the U8's play Chingford RFC in a re-arranged game at home, in some bitterly cold conditions. Stanford again showed improvement in all aspects of the game especially in going forward and supporting play, but were up against a very well drilled Chingford side, coming out second best in both games. STANFORD 30 CHINGFORD 55 Try Scorers : Thomas Cubitt 3 with Clarice Frampton-Webb, Rebecca Boultwood and Toby Arnold all scoring 1 apiece. STANFORD 35 CHINGFORD 55 Try Scorers : Thomas Cubitt 5 with Clarice Frampton-Webb and James Ramsey both scoring 1 each. |
UNDER 9 STANFORD 15 CHINGFORD 10 Stanford twice took the lead through Ben Kelly, only for Chingford's big forwards to barge through some weak Stanford tackling to equalise. Stanford looked like losing this as Chingford once more muscled their way to the try line only to spill the ball at the last moment. Then with almost the last play of the game, Callum Newton found some space to race almost the full length of the pitch to score the winning try for Stanford. Well done Callum. STANFORD 25 CHINGFORD 10 Stanford played much better in this game and as the snow began to fall, the boys put in some great tackles as well as some good attacking forays with the ball being offloaded quickly. Jack Knight opened the scoring for Stanford with a good scrum half's try diving over from short range from an attacking scrum. However, highlight of this game was Max Clarke's 4 tries as Chingford found his pace and power too much. This game also saw some good communication between players in defensive organisation and in the maul which was pleasing to see. There were some good performances all round, in particular from Ben Kelly and Zack Burdett, but the player of the day went to Max Clarke not only for his 4 tries, but also for some strong tackles. |

UNDER 12 STANFORD 10 CHINGFORD 35 With players playing out of position, Stanford struggled to cope with Chingford's strike runners and were well beaten in the first half. The second half saw Stanford tackle with more conviction and retain possession to score two tries from Brad Oakley and Louis Webb. STANFORD 0 CHINGFORD 15 Stanford competed better and kept Chingford out with some good tackles, but the pressure from the impressive visitors told in the end. |
