UNDER 9 STANFORD 15 UPPER CLAPTON 5 This match was staged as a replay of last week's Essex Bowl final which had finished 0-0. Once again it was a tight game with the ball in Stanford's half for long periods. The difference between the 2 sides came down to finishing as UC knocked on close to the try line on a couple of occasions, while Stanford took their opportunities. 2 trademark breakaway tries from Callum Newton and equally trademark dive into the corner from Jack Knight were Stanford's scorers. STANFORD 15 UPPER CLAPTON 10 This game was 10-10 for a long period with UC camped near Stanford's try long, just as they had been in the Bowl final the week before. Once again the defence held out and Stanford managed to drive down to the UC line. With the last play a Stanford penalty, Max Clarke's power was too much and he went over the try line to win the match and complete his hattrick. Overall a pleasing effort from the boys with good performance from the usual suspects and solid defence on round. Parents player of day was Zack Burdett who played with much higher levels of aggression than usual since his move from the forwards to the backs. Well done Zack. |
