POOL MATCHES

With the season coming to an end, Stanford U8's travelled to Chingford RFC for their festival, and were pooled alongside Chingford RFC, Finchley RFC and Woodford RFC.

CHINGFORD 50 STANFORD 20

First up was Chingford, Stanford held their own in the first half with some good rugby, but the second half was totally different with Stanford seemingly asleep allowing Chingford to score 5 unanswered tries, winning the game 10 tries to 4.

Try scorers:- Clarice Frampton-Webb, Callum Pluck, Ben Clark and Thomas Cubitt all scoring 1 apiece

WOODFORD 30 STANFORD 30

Woodford RFC were Stanford's next opponents and again Stanford started well, playing some good rugby and scoring some good team worked tries. Some sloppy defending let Woodford in with 2 easy tries straight from restarts and from a game they should have won it ended in a draw.

Try scorers:- Thomas Cubitt 3, James Ramsey 2 and Clarice Frampton-Webb 1

FINCHLEY 35 STANFORD 30

In the final pool game, Stanford faced an evenly matched Finchley RFC and once again started well with good attacking play and defence, turning Finchley over on a couple of occasions, but in the end Finchley came out on top by 1 try.

Try scorers: Thomas Cubitt 4 and Ben Clark 2

This meant that Stanford progressed to the Bowl Final.

BOWL FINAL

THURROCK 25 STANFORD 35

After playing 3 tough pool games and only having 1 sub, Stanford under 8's called upon their reserves for 1 last game against their local rivals Thurrock RFC. It was again Stanford who started the strongest, and although Thurrock kept coming back Stanford, with good support and defensive play came out eventual winners 7 tries to 5.

Coaches note

The coaches would like to thank all the players for giving their all on a tiring day and to the support given by all the parents during the day, also to the players and parents from other ages groups during the final.

UNDER 9

POOL MATCHES

FINCHLEY B 0 STANFORD 25

An easy first game for the boys with Callum Newton scoring 3 tries and Vinny Gordon and Jack Knight getting one each.

ASHFORD 20 STANFORD 0

This proved a tougher match with Ashford scoring 2 tries in each half. Although Ashford were the better team, Stanford made it hard for themselves with some sloppy play and weak tackling.

CHINGFORD 5 STANFORD 10

This was the most pleasing game for Stanford coming from 5-0 down at half time to win with tries from Ben Kelly and Zack Burdett in the second half. Stanford had been the better team throughout the match and had given a silly try away early in the first half when leaving a big hole for Chingford to exploit. The boys worked very hard and deserved their win.

WOODFORD 5 STANFORD 15

Again Stanford showed determination to overcome a good woodford side to record their third win of the group stages. Tries came from Ben Kelly, Vinny Gordon after an excellent first career try from Nathan.

This put Stanford second in the group and into the plate final against Finchley A.

PLATE FINAL

FINCHLEY A 30 STANFORD 5

Stanford did not give their best in this game against a good (and big) Finchley team and were out muscled from the start. The only really good thing to say was that the boys didn't give up and scored a try with the last play of the match with Vinny Gordon touching down after forcing a knock on by Finchley in  their own try area.

POOL MATCHES

ASHFORD 0 STANFORD 25

After the Easter break the boys started off strongly in this opening game. The forwards looked in control at the scrum and ruck which allowed the backs to put together some well supported moves.

Try Scorers:- Callum Jones 2, Daniel McAllister, Sam Moran, Christian Wood.

THURROCK 0 STANFORD 5

With local rivals Thurrock looking strong, this was always going to be a bruising encounter. Stanford were up for the challenge and although only scoring once, looked in complete control. Credit should be given to the Red men as tempers frayed towards the end of the game.

Try Scorers: Callum Jones.

CUP FINAL

WOODFORD 15 STANFORD 10

With some tired legs from a gruelling season the under 11's were unlucky not to finish the season on a high. Had it not been for the brilliance of Woodfords flyhalf and a couple of loose tackles the cup was there for the taking!

Try Scorers: Sam Moran, Charlie Downes.

Thank you once again to all of the players and parents for all of their support and lets hope the weather holds for the mini's tour next week.

UNDER 12

POOL MATCHES

CHINGFORD 15 STANFORD 0

Stanford started well, but after dropping off some tackles, they allowed Chingford to take control of the match with some powerful running and accurate passing.

THURROCK 20 STANFORD 5

Stanford had no answer to the running and passing skills of Thurrock, and Stanford's tackling was not up to the job, but a good performance from the pack saw Billy Gibbs driven over for his first try for the club.

BRENTWOOD 5 STANFORD 20

Apart from a breakaway try by their opponents, this was a far better performance by Stanford, with the pack again playing well and dominating the scrummages. Paul Carter and Liam Brunger both scored two tries.

BISHOP STORTFORD 20 STANFORD 0

Stanford's last match was against the team recognised as the best in England at under 12, so were obviously going to be tough opponents. Again, the pack played well, competing well for possession in the set pieces, but Stortford's fast backs ran in 4 unanswered tries.

Stanford were awarded the Plate runners up trophy, decided due to the final pool placings.
