This weekend saw the U8's and the rest of the mini's and midi's at Hastings for their annual rugby tour, which incorporated the Uckfield Festival.

POOL MATCHES

After a couple of late nights the U8's were pooled in a tough group with Crowborough RFC, Horsham RFC, Uckfield RFC and fellow touring side Wymondham RFC.

CROWBOROUGH 25 STANFORD 20

First up were Crowborough and saw Stanford come flying out of the traps, defending well and scoring some good tries.

Scorers: Thomas Cubitt, James Ramsey, Ben Clark and Callum Pluck.

HORSHAM 25 STANFORD 30

Stanford then took on Horsham in a very evenly contested game, in which Stanford came out on top.

Scorers: Clarice Frampton-Webb 2, Thomas Cubitt 2, Ben Clark and Alex Rapley.

WYMONDHAM 40 STANFORD 35

Next up were Wymondham, with Stanford continuing to defend and attack well and in a game they should have won, let in 2 late tries.

Scorers: Callum Pluck 3, Thomas Cubitt 2, Ben Clark and Alex Rapley.

UCKFIELD 35 STANFORD 25

Their last game was against the hosts Uckfield and in the first half Stanford were 4 tries down. In the second half they came out and showed fighting spirit, scoring some excellent individual and team tries, levelling the game 5 tries apiece, but now tiring and with no subs to call upon, let in 2 tries towards the end.

Scorers: Callum Pluck 3, Clarice Frampton-Webb and Thomas Cubitt.

Coaches comment: We would like to thank all the players for showing their commitment and fighting spirit on a hot and tiring day, after the weekends events !!!!!!!

POOL MATCHES

CRAWLEY 10 STANFORD 10

After a late night, Stanford arrived at Uckfield a little late and had to play 2 games back to back. The boys responded well and put in a fine performance with some of the best rucking seen this year. Crawley twice took the lead, using their big forwards as their main attacking weapon. Stanford fought back on both occasions with Jack Knight and Ben Kelly both scoring to leave the game even.

UCKFIELD 10 STANFORD 0

After a quick break, the boys once again put in a fine effort and were unlucky to lose this game Uckfield went on to win the group.

SEVENOAKS 5 STANFORD 25

After a much longer break, Stanford put in another good performance and were deserved winners. The highlight of the game was George Oughton's 2 excellent tries. Vinny Gordon, Max Clarke and Jack Knight scored the other tries.

LEWES 10 STANFORD 10

The last game of the season was one of the most exciting with Lewes who had looked good all day needing to win to top the group. The first half was very tight with Lewes taking an early lead, only for Ben Kelly to level the scores with a fine run and try just before the break. Stanford came out fired up and took the lead with a trademark try from Jack Knight as he took the ball from the base of an attacking scrum and dived over the line. Lewes came back at Stanford and with the last play of the game scored in the corner to gain the draw.

Parents player of the day was a difficult decision with Ben Kelly, Jack Knight and Max Clarke all putting in some of the best efforts of the season and Vinny Gordon delivered his usual high number of bone crunching tackles. Also unlucky to miss out was George Oughton who was back to the form he showed before Christmas and scored 2 excellent tries. Matthew Hook led the way at the breakdown and helped deliver the improvement in rucking. Nathan Lewis also played well "scoring" what would have been a fine try had it not been called back for a foot in touch, Zack Burdett delivered another good performance at fly half and Ben Worsley got involved in every ruck amd maul. However, the award went to Marcus Edgeway for the biggest improvement seen from any of the players as he got involved in countless rucks and mauls and deleievred a fine pass to put George away for his first try.

A last mention should go to the parents who insured that they they were the last to leave the bar on both Friday and Saturday nights. a fine achievement.

UNDER 10

The under 10's had a magnificent tour, they were all extremely tired after the court proceedings Saturday night whilst also borrowing large amounts of money from their parents that would of resolved most of the third world debt , they consumed more burgers, chips, coke and smoothies in more than probably the whole of London.

The games themselves were played in a magnificent spirit with our defence being a key part of our game, if it were possible we would of given each player man of the match, it went to Bradley Powell who was outstanding. The coaches tactical nous was up to its normal standards, questionable, this may have been due to the large quantities of slush puppies over Saturday night.

Lastly everyone had a brilliant time and a cracking weekend, bring on next year.

UNDER 11

This weekend the U11's travelled to Hastings for their end of season tour. In typical rugby fashion the boys and parents alike enjoyed two days of silliness before travelling to Uckfield for their prestigious mini's festival.

POOL MATCHES

EASTBOURNE 0 STANFORD 5

In a difficult pool the boys first challenge was to wake up and then play Eastbourne. The Redmen took a while to settle down and looked nervous, but slowly confidence set in and towards the latter part of the game the boys stepped up a gear to come away with a deserved win.

Try Scorer: Nico Pike.

HORSHAM 0 STANFORD 10

With one win under their belt and belief beginning to set in, the U11's put on a great show of attacking rugby with a score line that didn't reflect how much they dominated this game.

Try Scorers:  James Heys, Aiden Cronin.

LEWES 0 STANFORD 20

Lewes were the next team to try and contain the Stanford boys, unfortunately they could not match the strength and skill of the touring side.

Try Scorers: Sam Moran, Charlie Downes 2, Daniel McAllister.

CROWBOROUGH 0 STANFORD 15

With Crowborough unbeaten and a larger try count this match had to end in a win. In what was to be one of the best performances of the season, the boys made a very large, strong, well drilled rugby side look very ordinary and controlled the running of the game from start to finish.

Try Scorers:Sam Moran, Brannon Gower 2.

CUP FINAL

WYMONDHAM 0 STANFORD 5

With tired bodies and players patched up the Redmen stepped up to the plate and put on one of the most destructive displays of rugby that many of the loyal supporters had witnessed at this age group. The opposition were simply out classed when confronted with the outstanding performances of every Stanford player who came away with the deserved title of Uckfield Champions.

Try Scorer: Brannon Gower.

Coaches Comments:

Both Daren and Gary would like to thank everybody for their continued support, we couldn't do it without you all. On what was to be a very emotional occasion it meant so much to have such good people behind the whole team.

Special thanks to Jo, Jen, Richard, Ed (The Time), Tony, Kyran, Cheryl and last but not least Colin.

UNDER 12

POOL MATCHES

EASTBOURNE 0 STANFORD 20

Stanford started well and saw off their opponents with some powerful driving by the forwards.

Scorers: Liam Brunger, Louis Webb, Michael Woods and Alfie Edmeades.

LEWES 5 STANFORD 15

A terrific performance from the forwards saw tries from Robert Mayger, Paul Carter and Harry McGregor.

CROWBOROUGH 5 STANFORD 0

A performance that deserved better, Stanford could just as easily have won this match with a little luck.

WYMONDHAM 15 STANFORD 0

The lads were unfortunate with some of the referees' decisions and the match was far closer than the score suggests.

This meant that the lads had failed to win the group and qualify for the final, but this was the best team performance for some time.
