Stanford Minis @ Gravesend - 7th February 2010
UNDER 7 GRAVESEND 25 STANFORD 30 Stanford under 7's are getting stronger and stronger. They won 2 out of 3 games with some great rugby plays. We started the first game against Gravesend under 7's. Stanford won the close game 30-25 with James H 1, Daisy S 2, William H 2, and last but not least Adam got his first try for the club just goes to show the hard work the kids are putting in. Stanford then took on a mixture of Sidcup and Gravesend under 7's which were made up of 5 and 6 year olds, so Stanford aloud them to play with 11 players so the game was won by Stanford 45-10. Stanford played with great spirit with William H getting 4 tries and Kaycie with a fab 5. The third game was one too many for the Stanford Wild Bunch. We lost the game 30-20 with a controversial 2 tries disallowed which was unlucky. But it was a well fought game with try scorers Daisy S 2, William H 1, Kaycie 1. |

UNDER 10 STANFORD 20 SIDCUP 5 Stanford stormed into the first match against a big strong Sidcup team and quickly took the lead through Vinny Gordon. Jack Knight, Zack Burdett and Callum Newton each added another to give Stanford a 20-0 lead. Sidcup came back before the end of the match and managed to score a try before the whistle went. STANFORD 40 GRAVESEND 0 Gravesend fought well , but couldn't match Stanford's aggression at the breakdown or speed out wide. Stanford try scorers were Jack Knight 3, Max Clarke 2, Ben Kelly 2 and Vinny Gordon. STANFORD 15 SIDCUP 10 With only 10 players available, this could have been one game too many for Stanford, but was probably the finest performance the boys have had to date. Up against the strongest of the 2 Sidcup teams, the first half was looking likely to remain scoreless until Jack Knight grabbed onto a bouncing ball and broke through to score with the last move of the half. Sidcup equalised early in the second half through a strong run by one of their large centres. Stanford came back again showing some excellent passing with one such move giving Callum Newton the space he needed to score a second for Stanford. Once again Sidcup equalised through the same big centre who scored in the corner. With time running out and Stanford on the Sidcup line, the same centre once again broke away and looked likely to win the game for them, but Stanford managed to haul him down. Charlie Rooney scooped up the ball and scored the winner. With all six backs on the score sheet and the hard work put in by the forwards, it was difficult to pick a player of the day. however, for his 5 tries and some good tackling, the award went to Jack Knight |

UNDER 12 SIDCUP 0 STANFORD 40 The U12's had to fight hard for the first half of their opening match with Sidcup. After losing two key players before a ball was thrown, the boys had to re-adjust which seemed to knock their composure. At half time the redmen went on one try up but were lucky not to be losing. The second half was a much different affair with tries being scored nearly every minute. The backs scored all of the tries with Charlie Downes putting on an excellent display of both attacking and defensive rugby. Try Scorers:- Charlie Downes 3, Daniel McAllister 2, Jacob Cushing 2, James Heys. Defensive Player:- Charlie Downes. GRAVESEND 10 STANFORD 10 The U12's had little time to rest before they had to run out before the home team Gravesend. This was definitely one game too many for the redmen after a long break and fitness seemed to be the main problem. Credit should be given to Gravesend for their grit and determination, but well done to Stanford for hanging onto the draw. Try Scorers:- Jacob Cushing, Charlie Downes. Defensive Player:- Charlie Downes. Coaches Comments:- Thanks to all the parents for the early start, we do appreciate it. Well done to our new players who are showing lots of potential and get well soon Callum after his early trip to the hospital. |
