UNDER 14s STANFORD 5 UPPER CLAPTON 22 The day did not start well for the home team when 5 players cried off at the last minute with injury & illness, so with a bit of rearranging Stanford took to the field to face a well drilled Upper Clapton outfit. For the first 15 minutes the sides were evenly matched but gradually the cracks began to show and Upper Clapton put together a well worked move through the backs to score in the corner to which they added 2 points for the conversion. The home side came strait back and worked their way up the pitch and from a ruck 5 metres out the ever reliable number 8 Musa Yusuff picked up and powered over the line to score. The closing minutes to the first half again saw the visitors cut through the defence to make the half time score 12-5. Something changed in the second half, Stanford looked to be paying the price for a long Christmas layoff, although everyone was trying hard the attack and defence was disjointed, the set pieces were working but in open play the home side struggled, the visitors scored twice more through unnecessary errors but all in all they did put up a good fight. Many thanks to Tony, Louis and Josh who stepped up and played well. |
